Senate Welcomes the Executive Director of the AMU, Todd Vicker

Marquette University Student Government invited Todd Vicker, the Executive Director of the AMU and Auxiliary Enterprises, to open its Senate meeting on Thursday, November 7 with a presentation on the developments and services offered by Marquette University’s Alumni Memorial Union.

During the presentation, Vicker outlined the operations and functions of the AMU. The AMU holds a presence in buildings and manages reservations for about 95 percent of space across campus; this includes buildings and structures such as the Varsity Theatre, Union Sports Annex, Weasler Auditorium, Al McGuire Center and more.

Senators inquired about possible opportunities for AMU to offer reservations for academic buildings for additional work and study space for students after class hours, as well as adding additional electrical outlets to the AMU specifically in Marquette Place.

Vicker acknowledged the need for additional study space at the university, however, said that opening academic areas after class hours for the purpose of studying is beyond the control of the AMU and said the Senate should address those concerns with the Provost.

In regards to additional electric outlets, Vickers informed the Senate that this is a project the AMU is currently working on throughout the AMU.

After the presentation, Senate approved Resolution #3 which motioned for the MUSG Leadership Award to be renamed the “Dr. Jonathan C. Dooley, Ph.D., Award for Leadership in MUSG” in honor of MUSG advisor Jon Dooley and his fifteen years of service to MUSG and the Marquette community.

MUSG Senate wants to remind students to attend the “Presidential Search: Student Input Session” that will be held at 4 p.m. on Nov. 13 in the AMU Ballrooms, as well as the Fr. Wild Forum that will be held on November 20th in the first floor lobby of the AMU at 7 p.m.

MUSG would also like to let students know that it is still accepting applications for its Financial Vice President position, and encourages all interested students to apply. Applications are due November 15.

Senate adjourned at 8:44 p.m.
