MUSG to host DiversiTEA: Oppression into Opportunity for Women

MILWAUKEE (April 23, 2013) – Marquette University Student Government and the Panhellenic Association will host DiversiTEA: Oppression into Opportunity for Women on Tuesday, April 23, at 2:30 p.m. The event will take place in room 157 of the Alumni Memorial Union.

DiversiTEA has been a recurring MUSG event that allows students to explore controversial societal issues in a comfortable and engaging environment. This particular installment will consist of the presentation of the documentary “Half the Sky” along with a short discussion about the film and the topic of oppression against women.

“Half the Sky” is based on a book written by Pulitzer Prize winning journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. The book and documentary focus on oppression against girls of all ages and reveals many terrifying stories of crime against women. The documentary shows what a little help can do to encourage these women to take hold of their lives and create a better future. Kristof and other celebrities including Olivia Wilde, America Ferrera and Diane Lane journey into the lives of these women around the world, sharing their stories and finding solutions.

Join in the presentation and participate in the discussion about oppression against women. The event is free, no ticket required, and open to all Marquette students.
