MILWAUKEE (Aug. 26, 2012) – Are you looking to get involved on our campus? Elections for open positions within Marquette University Student Government (MUSG) and the Marquette University Residence Hall Association are just three weeks away and application packets are now available online!
The MUSG Senate is responsible for representing the student body’s ideas, opinions and concerns to the Marquette University administration. Senators represent students in a variety of ways: writing legislation to be approved by the senate, meeting with administrators to discuss students’ ideas or concerns, planning forums to address important topics like campus safety, and creating surveys to gain a better understanding of Marquette students’ needs. Open Senate seats include On-Campus (Residence Halls), Off-Campus, and Commuter.
The Marquette University Residence Hall Association (RHA) is a governing body that serves as the voice of the resident student population. Elected RHA representatives serve as the voice of their halls or apartments by addressing the needs of the residents through programming, initiating change, and building community among the residence halls. Open positions include RHA Representatives, and seats on hall and apartment councils.
If you are interested in running for MUSG Senate, visit musg.mu.edu/Election.pdf to download the application. To obtain an RHA election packet, speak to a desk receptionist at a residence hall or university apartment. Turn in your MUSG packets to the MUSG office or RHA packets to the front desk of your residence hall or university apartment by noon on September 7, 2012. Elections will be held on September 13, 2012.
Be the difference, and get involved on campus!
MILWAUKEE (Aug. 14, 2012) – The Marquette University Student Government extends a warm welcome to all incoming and returning students with MUmania! MUmania will run from Monday, August 27 to Saturday, September 1. It is fast approaching, and this year’s activities do not disappoint!
On Monday, August 27, MUmania kicks off with a Water Fight on Central Mall at 4 p.m. Students voted in a Facebook poll and overwhelmingly chose to have the Water Fight be the first event. MUSG has purchased 300 water guns for the event, but also encourages students to bring their own water guns, cups or anything that can hold water to soak their fellow students!
Student talent is the focal point for Tuesday night! MU Showcase in the Varsity Theater features the best student performance groups on campus. Starting at 9 p.m., come cheer on the Gold ‘n’ Blues and The Naturals, Hype Dance and PURE Dance. There will also be a performance by the Studio 013 Refugees, Marquette’s only improv comedy troupe. The event is also emceed by MU Last Comic Standing 2012 People’s Choice Winner (and Fugee) Brendan Takash. What could be better?
On Wednesday there will be night of entertainment you do not want to miss! Starting at 8 p.m., head on over to the AMU Ballrooms to laugh the night away at MUSG Presents: Comedy Central! Featuring professional comedians Seaton Smith and Paul Varghese, you will be sure to enjoy yourself. The event is also hosted by MU student and winner of MU Last Comic Standing 2012, Jimmy Seter!
On Thursday you will have the chance to meet a group of remarkable people. They were brought together to fight battles that no one else could handle. No…we’re not talking about MUSG, we’re talking about THE AVENGERS. One of this year’s hottest films will be played outdoors on a giant screen in the Central Mall at 9 p.m. The movie and popcorn are both provided free of charge, so grab a blanket and your friends—you don’t want to miss this one!
On Friday, go stock up on some peanuts and cracker jacks—because we’re going to the ballgame! Come cheer for the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park as they play the Pittsburgh Pirates. Tickets will be sold for $15 each at several MUmania events, as well as in the Brooks Lounge on the first floor of the AMU. The bus to Miller Park leaves from SHAMU at 6:30 p.m.
The MUmania fun does not stop there! Friday night from 9:00 p.m. to 1 a.m. there will a Block Party in Westowne Square. Students can look forward to seeing Nick Pike, an extreme stunt juggler from America’s Got Talent, a rock wall, a performance by The Well Reds, inflatable play areas, bag toss games, tons of free food, and more! Attendees will even get to hang out with the Marquette Golden Eagle, the coolest bird on campus.
Is it possible to pack a few more activities in? On Saturday night is the grand finale of MUmania: Annex Mania. From 9 p.m. until 1 a.m., come over to the Union Sports Annex for free cosmic bowling, trivia and prizes, restaurant specials, and most importantly, Headphone Disco. Headphone Discos are huge silent raves where participants are given their own set of wireless two-channel headphones. Each DJ plays their own music on a channel and listeners get the opportunity to switch between the two and dance the night away. The best part? The only actual noise on the dancefloor is that of the dancers, singing out loud to their favorite songs! This is a night you do not want to miss!
Students can also win prizes throughout the week. By tweeting at events with #MUmania and posting pictures to MUSG’s Facebook page, students can win reserved seating at upcoming MUSG events, free passes for movies at the Varsity Theatre, free tickets to an upcoming excursion, and more! Be sure to follow MUSG on Twitter (@MUSG) and like us on Facebook (fb.com/musg.web) for more information.
MUmania is going to be insane. Start your year at Marquette on the right foot, by casting aside your books and joining MUSG for a week of fun!
