Upcoming Diversity Roundtables and Universal iClicker recommendation passedPosted: February 6, 2012
MILWAUKEE – Feb. 3, 2012 – At last night’s Senate meeting, Senator Sterling Hardaway announced that the Student Organizations Committee approved two new student organizations on campus: Euchre Club and Youth Empowered in the Struggle.
Arts and Sciences Senator Sarah Miller was approved to serve on the MUSG Budget Committee with a unanimous vote 25-0-0. The MUSG Budget Committee sets the annual operating budget of MUSG.
Arts and Sciences Senator Sam Schultz presented a piece of legislation that suggests the university ought to make a rule that only one type of clicker may be used in the classroom. “After many discussions with students who use clickers in the classroom, we found that the majority would prefer having to buy and use only one clicker,” said Senator Schultz. The committee for this piece of legislation recommends there be one universal iClicker because of its low price and ease of use. This recommendation passed with a vote of 27-0-0; MUSG senators hope to talk with administrators and professors about this proposal.
Also at last night’s Senate meeting, President Joey Ciccone announced that he and Vice President Trent Carlson met with Dr. Chris Miller, Vice President for Student Affairs, to discuss the new role of the Executive Vice President. Vice President Carlson also met with Larry Williams, Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, to learn more about Williams’ role in university affairs and what his plans are for the athletic department.
President Ciccone announced the next four dates for the upcoming diversity roundtables. All roundtables will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Multicultural Center, AMU 121.

Communications Vice President Arica Van Boxtel announced that the next Gold Mine will go out Saturday, Feb. 11 for the men’s basketball game against the University of Cincinnati.
Programs Vice President Derek Merten announced that applications for program board commissioner positions can still be picked up in the MUSG office or found online beginning Tuesday, Feb. 7. Applications are due Friday, Feb. 10.
Programs Vice President Derek Merten also announced that Night of Chocolate will take place Saturday, Feb. 18 from 8 to 10 p.m. in the AMU ballrooms. As an additional way to spread word of the event, MUSG members will pass out free candy bars across campus in the days prior to the event. A select few will contain “golden tickets,” which will allow that student and a guest free admission to Night of Chocolate.

- Lt. General Honoré, Joint Task Force leader during the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, will speak about preparedness and leadership Thursday, Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. in the Weasler Auditorium.
- Student Health Advisory Board will hold a free ice cream social Monday, Feb. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Student Health Services.
- MUSG Advisor Kate Trevey said that the Office of Student Development is accepting applications for student employees for the next academic school year. Applications can be found online at mu.edu/osd and are due Friday, Feb. 24
