Wisconsin Voter ID Update, SOF Deadline Approaches, Election of New PPT

MILWAUKEE (Jan. 19, 2012) – At last night’s MUSG Senate meeting Mary Czech-Mrochinski from the Office of Public Affairs presented an update on the new Wisconsin voter ID policy. She thanked MUSG for “all of their hard work last spring on the May 5th resolution of the Voter ID Bill.” Czech-Mrochinski also encouraged students to update their addresses on CheckMarq for future voting registration in Wisconsin.

MUSG President Joey Ciccone announced that voter applications are available at marquette.edu/vote, as well as in Union Station in the AMU. The Milwaukee Elections Commission staff will hold a training session for students to learn how to register people to vote Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. on campus. Ciccone also stated that that applications for the 2012-2013 Program Board Vice President are still available and the deadline is on January 23. In addition, MUSG will be continuing round table discussions this semester, which will be held in the Multicultural Center of the AMU.

Executive Vice President Trent Carlson reminded those present that the SOF deadline is today, Friday, Jan. 20. The deadline is for events that require funding occurring before March 23, 2012.

Communications Vice President Arica Van Boxtel announced that the next edition of the Gold Mine will be distributed at the Marquette v. Seton Hall game on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Program Vice President Derek Merten announced that tickets for the Sunburst Tubing Excursion go on sale Monday, Jan. 23. The 2011-2012 Speaker Series continues on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 with Lt. General Honore. Morgan Spurlock has been rescheduled to speak Thursday, Feb. 23 at 8 p.m.

Financial Vice President Brittany Riesenbeck announced that the finance department is still interviewing candidates for Financial Office Assistant positions.

Legislative Vice President Drew Halunen opened elections for a new President Pro Tempore. Senator Hayes nominated Senator Hanson, who accepted the nomination. After a brief debate, the Senate proceeded with a closed-ballot vote. With a vote of 28-0 Senator Hanson was named the new President Pro Tempore replacing previous President Pro Tempore Katie Simoncic.
